Public Skills Progress

The day after I arrived in Florida, we went to church. I was so overstimulated! I couldn’t relax on the floor. This is an improvement, because I am much more relaxed than the previous week!

Navigating the bustling world as a service dog is no small task. While service dogs are trained to focus intently on assisting their handlers, mastering the art of relaxation in busy environments can be just as crucial. Duke will continue to improve as he goes to church and public places more over time.

With time, Duke will become a pro at turning off distractions. He will learn to curl up under a table, ignoring the noises, or resting quietly in church and in waiting rooms. These moments of calm not only show his dedication but highlighted the trust and bond he shares with the trainer and eventually with me.
