Duke and I have been working hard on his public skills like not being fearful of loud noises, weary of guys, and crowds. Wanted to share a couple of glimpses toward progressing out of his fear…

Went to Walgreens to get a greeting card. I stopped to look at the cards and Duke sat down as well next to me. A guy walked in and started looking at cards next to us. He said “Hi Buddy”. Duke stayed calm and even wagged his tail a little bit.

Later that day, Duke and I went to work at my part time job. He does well most of the time with all the commotion there. This time, there were several guys talking loudly. Duke was initially fearful but he ended up laying down against the wall and eventually he fell asleep.

At church the next day, he slept through the entire service. He startled when the drums began to play but recovered quickly. I was talking to some friends of mine after the service and he just laid and waited. One of my friends, a guy, knelt down and patted his head. He let him do that for a few seconds and then got up and walked behind my leg as if to say “ok that’s enough for me”.

Since Duke was not properly socialized as a baby, he will struggle with these types of things but I am so proud of his progress!
