4th of July…

It’s crazy when you write a post and forget to publish it to Duke’s blog! My how time flies!

We actually are about 6 weeks past Duke getting fixed and I do believe his hormones have finally leveled out. The vet said it would take 4-6 weeks for his body to adjust. Overall, I have seen Duke calm down quite a bit in that time. Don’t get me wrong, he still has energy and “spookies” but is also only 21 months old. After all Labrador retrievers are puppies for about 3 years!

For the 4th of July, we actually left town! After last year’s crazy noise level, I was not going to stay home to deal with the noise and the dogs’ anxiety. We went to Lawrence, Kansas. They don’t have fireworks and actually enforce their ban on fireworks. It was AMAZING! The boys did so good and we had fun! It’s a win when Duke is calm the majority of the time! We watched a drone show, walked in the downtown area and went to a few shops. We found a pet store where Duke and Snook both got homemade dog cookies and a free toy. Enjoyed talking with the owners about service dogs.

It was a white-knuckle drive home because I drove through blinding rain the entire way until the south side of Des Moines. Definitely going there again!
